At The Beach

Ahh, the beauty of Summertime. We so look forward to the great outdoors and all it has to offer during this time of year. Amusement Parks, beaches, fishing and all sorts of activities help us to create great memories to look back upon. In this post we visit Sandy Point State Park on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. The scene is early morning and the sun has well cleared the horizon, turning the lighting intensity toward harsh but manageable.

The beach and shoreline here is somewhat long so there is plenty of room for folks to spread out.

Surf Fishing has been setup along this section, while swimmers and picnics have set up camp further away.

Serving as a backdrop is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, a nearly 5-mile structure that spans the western and eastern shores of the bay.

Sandy Point was once the site of a ferry service back in the early 1900's, taking passengers, cargo and the few autos of the day across the bay to the eastern shore. As you may imagine, there is a lot of history associated with this area and we will cover other aspects of that in future posts.

Thanks so much for visiting!
