Blue Harbor

One of my favorite times to be out shooting is during the blue hour because you never quite know what you will end up with as an image. In this case it was a blue harbor, complete with an overcast sky and still water in the National Harbor of Washington DC. It was just after 6:00 am when I arrived here from across the bridge in Pentagon City where I had been staying for a few days. This was the very first shot of the day.

Using the 10.5mm Fisheye for a little creative fun, it always delivers something wild, as seen in the totally distorted railing at the base of the image.

This is a 3-shot bracket (-2 to +2) which was processed using Nik's HDR Efex Pro 2.  Afterward, a little masking in Photoshop was in order to reach the final result.

While in the digital darkroom I decided to convert this image to B&W using the newly updated and much improved Topaz Black & White Effects 2 (Beta). I have a review here, and the product is due to be released this week.

I love the Washington DC area for photographing iconic buildings and landscapes. There is so much history there in this nation's capitol, I look forward to another visit soon.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
