Esskay Meat Products

In 1858 William Schluderberg founded a meat processing and packing company which later became known as Esskay with the 1919 merger between Schluderberg and Thomas J. Kurdle. It's a simple name formed from the initials of the owners' last names (S-K). The company has been mainly known for hams, lunch meats, hot dogs and the likes. I located a few of their vintage packing crates in the Museum of Industry during my visit there some months ago.

Unrelated to the topic of this post but noticeable are a few sacks of Domino Sugar.

A B&W version is offered below.

Now I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a thing about meat processing, but I certainly hope that advancements in machinery have advanced beyond this old meat grinder I found standing nearby. :-)

For some reason I really like this one in B&W. Your results may vary. :-)

Okay, meat grinders of the day were interesting to say the least. But what about this chopper (for lack of a better term) below?

The devices of the day may have looked a little crude but at least there is no actual meat being processed in the picture. :-)
