Patrolling Pair

These United States Navy patrol craft, the YP 683 and YP 687, were delivered to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland in 1986 and 1987, respectively. They are primarily used as training craft and can often be found moored outside of the Academy on the Severn River just upstream from the Chesapeake Bay. The image below was taken as the sun was rising during the Baltimore Sailabration in mid-June. More than 60 tall ships were in port to mark the bicentennial of The Star Spangled Banner, our National Anthem. Written by Francis Scott Key, the poem that became this nation's anthem was inspired by the bombardment of nearby Fort McHenry. But I digress.

These twins were built by Marinette Marine in Marinette, WI. , each with twin Detroit diesel engines cranking out 437 horsepower at the shaft and sporting a range of 1800 nautical miles.

In the post-processing department, I used Lightroom 4 and a "Sunrise" preset I created. As time allows I continue to build a library of presets and will share some of them here in the near future. Thus far, I only have a hand full of them.

Next we have a "Medium Tone" version of the "Patrolling Pair", also processed in LR4.

Lastly, the original RAW file "As shot", simply passed through ACR untouched then converted to a JPEG for posting here.
