Renwick Gates at the Enid A Haupt Gardens

Like doors, there has always been something about gates that I've found interesting, particularly large cast iron gates. They represent one of those architectural elements that enjoy photographing. In today's post we swing through Washington DC again, this time travelling down Independence Avenue where the Smithsonian Castle Building is located. These gates, designed by the famous architect James  Renwick Jr. , lead to the Enid A Haupt Gardens, a heaven-on-earth place that is an experience, not just a visit. We'll have a look at some of the stunning scenery inside in future post but today, the gates are the focus.

I've seen a few photographs of these before and knew I someday wanted to capture them... differently.
