Seabees ~ Can Do

Thanks for your visits and support on the previous post, I really appreciate it. ;-) Today we give a nod to some of our fighting military personnel who, while in harms way, lay it all on the line for freedom.  During World War II the U S Navy created specialized groups known as Construction Battalions (CB), from which the name Seabee derived. These groups are quite similar to the U S Army's Combat Engineers, where I got my start, although I saw no combat.

These brave souls design and build bridges, airstrips, roads and other infrastructure where there is none, in order to advance the cause and move toward successful missions, often under enemy fire. During my most recent trip to Washington DC, I came upon this memorial across the bridge in Arlington Virginia, just outside of Arlington National Cemetery. It was just before 6:00 am and the morning light was soft and the air quite chilly. There is no parking along the roadway but since it was early devoid of anyone, I stopped and ran off a few hand-held brackets.

After running a bracket (-2 to +2) through HDR Efex Pro and pulling the HDR image into Photoshop for some masking I then activated Topaz Adjust. Once there, a dash of "Dynamic Pop" from the HDR Collection was added. Initially the memorial showed it's true slate gray granite look but I was able to pull some color into the scene during post-processing.

Hats off to the Seabees!
