Welcome back! Today's post seems somewhat fitting as we are currently under a 4 to 6 inch early Spring snow storm. While the image "Storm Clouds Gathering" is not a Winter snow scene, we did experience the title during the previous afternoon.
It was a mid-Summer afternoon when this photo was taken with a rumbling sky and a few strikes of lightning. The lightning eluded my camera once again but the ominous sky was included in the bridge shot below.
Soon after this shot the wind gusts intensified and a huge thunderstorm broke out just as I returned to my vehicle.
This was a 3-shot hand-held bracket which I aligned in Photoshop (Edit> Auto-Align Layers) using the various exposures to even out the overall image. The sky was masked in from the +2 exposure then darkened using the Burn tool (o). I felt that the initial sky was far too dark and would loose too much detail using the Dodge tool (o) to lighten it. Afterward, the sky was smoothed out using Topaz's DeNoise.
The background bridge abutments were also lightened a bit via the Dodge tool.
Next, a black and white adjustment layer was added where a few adjustments to the sliders yielded the result below.
I would love to hear your comments and feedback below.
Thanks so much for visiting!
