Sunrise Services

Some months ago while driving through a small town around sunrise a church caught my eye. It was a familiar style of stone work known as formed stone, a process by which concrete was formed into architectural stones. When I was growing up this was quite popular and I watched many brick houses converted to this new look of the time. I recall the process being similar to plastering as the concrete was applied to a mesh screen and formed with a mold of some type. Anyhow, when I saw this church it sort of took me back in time as you don't see this application nearly as much as years ago. My guess is that most of these types of finishes have been in place for a good number of years now. I find churches to be architecturally attractive and this one was no different. As it turned out, it was in fact a Sunday morning, albeit quite early, and the sun was rising to bring another beautiful day, hence the title. Sunrise services are usually associated with Easter but the term seemed such a fitting title given the sky, the subject and time of day.

The next several posts will feature images from New York. I'll be staying in Manhattan for the remainder of the week. In the meantime, I'll be visiting your sites during odd hours and look forward to sharing the great images produced by the many talented photographers I've been fortunate enough to come across this year. Yes, that means you. ;-)

See you soon and thanks for visiting!
