In the Name of Progress

It happens in every city and town, no matter how large or small. Often it's a good thing while other times, not so much. Nonetheless, time marches on and the cities and towns are transformed into busy places... in the name of progress. We had a look at this very thing in the previous post where the old passes into history. In Towson Maryland, the county seat of Baltimore County, there are several small cemeteries in the heart of town that date back hundreds of years. The town grew up around these final resting places to a point where you have to actually look for them today, which brings me to the image below.

A familiar scene, a centuries old cemetery in the heart of a busy town. In this case the town is Manhattan, New York. A closer look indicates that there is something happening in the background.

Yes, it's part of the World Trade Center Memorial construction.  You can see more of the 9/11 Memorial images here.

I've always found it fascinating to see the merging of the old and new, as it tells us great stories of history and advancement... in the name of progress.

Have a great day everyone and thanks for visiting!

9 11 Site

Today we take a trip back to NYC where the 9/11 Memorial is being completed. Part of this sacred site is now open to the public but the surrounding area is under heavy construction, as you'll see in the background of a couple of images below. Visiting a site like this carries a special meaning, one obviously shared by everyone who enters. There is a tremendous sense of respect and honor to be here, not the somber mood that some may expect. The fact that I was walking on sacred ground provided an uplifting experience for me. When the perimeter construction is complete, this will be truly a sight to behold.

I'll let the few images below speak for themselves.

It's the first weekend of 2012, be safe, be kind and we'll see you on Monday.

Have a great weekend!
