The Wrightsville - Columbia Bridge
In the previous post we had a look at one of the many bridges that crosses the Susquehana River, a shoreline shot that mainly showed the abutments that support the superstructure. This post provides a top side view. This particular bridge is restricted to pedestrian traffic only, which makes it very nice. You'll find cyclist, runners and generally people going about their daily business. There is a sidewalk covering about 40% of the bridge but the remainder is an open grate roadway system that allows you to see right down to the water below. Makes for an unsettling walk for some. :-)
The Susquehana river runs about 450 miles from around Cooperstown New York to the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. There are likely hundreds of bridges that span it, but this particular one connects City Island to Harrisburg Pennsylvania. City Island is a great place, smack dab in the middle of the river.
