The Dock at Night

The Docks at Night

Today we take a trip down to the dock at night where photo opportunities are everywhere, even if you have photographed the same area during the day. It's a completely different world. While the scene below may look eerily quiet, there was a rocking party going on at the Bo Brooks Seafood Restaurant just out of the frame to the left. This immediate area, off of Boston Street in downtown Baltimore, is known as Lighthouse Point, a part of the Canton neighborhood.

In the foreground I included the steering wheel and railing of an old clunker of a skiff. It made such a contrast to the yachts across the harbor.

Processing

Once again I decided to go for a painterly look. The 3-shot bracket was run through HDR Efex Pro 2 before bringing it into Photoshop where a little "BuzSim" was applied in Topaz Lab's Simplify 4. To round out the processing I added some vibrance (+27).

As a reminder, a free upgrade awaits owners of Simplify 2 and 3. You can read about the upgrade here. New purchasers can enter the discount code “GETSIMPLIFIED” for a 30% discount if you purchase by 9/30/12.

Thanks for clicking by. ;-)

Bond Street Wharf

Welcome back from what I hope was a wonderful weekend for you. We begin this week with a a few shots from the waterfront, specifically, the Bond Street Wharf of the Harbor East section of Baltimore. This is an area that has a rich maritime past. Shipbuilding dates back to the early 1700s.

Once a distribution point for goods and textiles, many of the area's old warehouses were long done away with. For quite some time there were little more than surface parking lots in the area but developers have invested heavily here, making this a truly beautiful and modern place. The Bond Street Wharf now houses a mixture of offices and a residential section.

I'll be covering this area over the course of several future posts but wanted to begin with this street scene along the front of the building.

Next we have a look in the opposite direction where you will notice the cobblestone streets of the area with train tacks that date back to the 1800s.

Swinging around to the rear of the building we take a peek at one of the docks. Stored here are some colorful kayaks owned by the Canton kayak Club.

While other ducks did ducky things like play in the water, there was one that simply was not in the mood and remained on the dock, as shown in the final image below.
