Historic Christ Church

Gateway to History

Welcome back, my friends! I hope you had a great weekend. I'm fresh off of a 12-day break and have really enjoyed the time away from the normal routine. But that's all in the rear-view mirror now and it's time to press on toward fall and the upcoming football season. :-)

Today we return to the historic Christ Church in Irvington Virginia, a site that dates to 1732, as mentioned in this previous post. There is just something about places like this that has always captured my attention. I captured a fair number of images while there but today I wanted to share this peek into the courtyard where the old colonial style building stands. The previous night saw heavy thunderstorms blow through the area (I stayed about 2 miles away), so I had hope for a clearing sky with a few clouds to hold some color. Well, we shoot what's available right?

Enjoy!

Row of Goodly Cedars

We've reached the backside of the week and the days are passing quickly on my little R & R. Time flies when you're having fun, as they say. :-) Speaking of fun, are you on Google Plus? It's a really refreshing way to interact and expand your social network. I have been on a couple of weeks now and have fully enjoyed the experience. You can find me here.  If you're on G+ and we've yet to connect let me know. Now on to today's post.

Outside of the historic  Christ Church in Irvington Virginia stands a tall "Row of Goodly Cedars". This particular row of trees was a re-creation installed by the Garden Club of Virginia in 1968. These grounds and the colonial style church upon it dates back to 1732 when is was completed, replacing an even earlier 1669 structure. Listed on the Virginia Historic Society, the place is immaculately kept.

Like many of you, I enjoy historic sites and find them to be quite interesting.  We will certainly explore many more historic places in future post but for now, enjoy the "Row of Goodly Cedars".

Have an awesome day, I'll see you out there!
