Nations Capitol

Jefferson Memorial

A quick post and dash today, friends. This week has landed me in the very busy zone while I work on 2 upcoming projects simultaneously. Normally I'd be looking forward to the weekend but 1 of these projects takes place then so... I'll be catching up to your creative postings during odd hours. Today's image was taken during the Summer of 2011 on one of my trips to the nations capitol. Previously I posted this inside look of the Jefferson Memorial and geez, that seems so long ago. A truckload of images have been processed since then. :-)

This is one of those images that I had looked at many times but passed it over since this place has been photographed more times than anyone can count. This time I decided the image had been in the file long enough. After running it through HDR Efex Pro and masking out many of the people, it was given a little Topaz Adjust and an S-curve to soften the harsh midday light.

The staircase was initially fairly crowded but I used 4 other images and brushed in some areas with no people. The guy in the lower right is probably wondering what happened to the 2 ladies that were following him. :-)

Have a great day and we'll catch up to you soon.

FDR Memorial Columns

Welcome friends! Today's post returns us to the U S capitol where we find the FDR Memorial. Located just off the tidal basin, this is a huge tourist attraction.  You can see previous posts here and here.  I shot dozens of images earlier this year on my visit and in this post we have a look at the FDR Memorial Columns.

The significance of these columns is unknown to me and research didn't reveal very much. I recall looking them over closely and found braille, handprints and lots of raised images, some hieroglyphic-like. Perhaps these are for the blind and others with physical challenges, which would certainly be a good and thoughtful thing.

I'll share a little processing info on this one.

This image was processed from a 3-bracket set. There were a number of people milling about while getting this shot but I masked in the one exposure that had the fewest, which I had to wait a good deal of time for. Probably spent more than 10 minutes getting the 3 shots. :-) I used HDR Efex Pro for merging and creating the HDR then pulled the HDR and the original 3 shots into PS. Finishing touches were added with a curves adjustment and a little sharpening.

Enjoy!
