Daybreak on The Strip

Today we head back out to the desert city of Las Vegas where I shot the image below at daybreak. I had walked across the elevated crosswalk between the MGM Grand and New York New York, stopping to await the traffic that was sitting at a red light a block or so away. It had been some time since I had captured any light trails so this was the perfect opportunity to do so. By the way, this vantage point is just above the Firefighter II image posted previously.

This is a single long exposure image (RAW) processed completely in LR4 with it's versatile array of sliders. I was quite happy with this result, particularly when you see the original shot (below).

The long exposure had blown out some of the lighting and made things a bit fuzzy overall but LR4 is a really powerful tool for working with RAW files, allowing one to recover a great deal of information. The final settings were saved as a preset for future use. Presets are great time savers, although each image is different, but they can get you closer than starting from scratch.

Firefighter II

Welcome back! Featured in this post we have a boat representing the famed New York Fire Department's "Firefighter II", a state-of-the-art quick response vessel.  I say "representing" because the real Firefighter II is quite different in styling, which can be immediately seen by looking at it's superstructure. There is also one other important fact, this vessel is not in NYC. It's located in Las Vegas outside of the New York New York Hotel & Casino where everything is modeled after the Big Apple. A fantastic place I might add. ;-)

I posted this image a couple of days after arriving in the glamorous desert city where some great memories were created.

Here is today's shot.

This boat display is pretty cool to look at and as one can imagine, very popular for tourist with cameras. To my surprise, I found only a couple of these images online.

There was once a green painted "Firefighter I" on display here but has been removed for some reason. Perhaps it's being repainted red and white to match the above.

Thanks so much for visiting!
