The river is wide, the river is deep. It’s also jammed with ice which disrupts the fast flow of water normally seen in this section of the Susquehanna...

Blue Hour on the River

Today we have an image taken at twilight, that special time of morning or evening known as the Blue Hour. The term originated from the French version l'Heure Bleue and has such a special perceived meaning that many books and films have been created with the title. For photographers, it's that magical time of day when the natural lighting provides wonderful hues of blue light, allowing us to create soft and sometimes mystical images. The image below is Blue Hour on the River, taken during morning twilight on the Susquehanna River near Harrisburg Pennsylvania.

This 3-second long exposure smoothed out the waters, adding to what was a very quiet scene. Now that Spring has arrived I look forward to more Blue Hour photography.

As the summer winds down, scenes like the one below will become more commonplace as boats are stored on boat lifts or completely removed and placed in storage.

This image was taken near Perryville Park, a point of land that juts out into the top of the Chesapeake Bay where the Susquehanna River meets this great body of water. It's a place I am very fond of and one I look forward to returning to during the upcoming Fall season.
