The Castle

Smithsonian Gardens

Welcome back from the long weekend. For those of you who celebrated the Labor Day Holiday here in the US, I hope it was quite enjoyable and relaxing. Today's image comes from Washington DC, the Smithsonian Institution to be exact. This is also known as The Castle and has beautifully manicured grounds. The low vantage point here is from just inside these gates.

This was another 3-shot bracket (-2 to +2) which was processed using HDR Efex Pro before being imported into Photoshop for a few final adjustments. I used a 10.5 mm, f /2.8 fisheye lens to capture the width of this scene.

Built in 1847, the castle-like building in the background is the Smithsonian's first building and continues to serve as it's headquarters.

Thanks for visiting!

In today's post we return to Washington DC where we have a look at a place affectionately known as "The Castle". The Smithsonian Institute has many museums and buildings spread around Washington but this one is rather unique in it's appearance. We actually had a peek inside the gates designed by James Renwick in a previous post. This time we have approached the castle-like doors inside the Enid A Haupt Gardens.

I really like the architecture of this building so I was drawn in fairly easily. The fisheye was still mounted after taking the shot of the gates so it was only natural to add a little drama to this entrance. ;-)

If you are ever in the DC area, a visit to any of the Smithsonian Museums will be a fine treat.

Have a great weekend, everyone and thank you for visiting!
