Bond Street Social

In this post I return to one of my favorite topics, architecture. Often I wander the streets of urban areas in search of eye-catching buildings and commercial establishments.  On one such occasion I came upon the Bond Street Social in the Fells Point area of downtown Baltimore. It's a part of the old Bond Street Wharf, shown here in a previous post from 2011.

The Bond Street Social is an upscale dining and party establishment that offers a wonderful atmosphere and location to hang out and gather. They specialize in global cuisine, including dishes unique to the Chesapeake Bay area. I was in the area one morning and their storefront caught my eye while showing some nice reflections in the windows. There are times when I find the reflections as attractive as the main subject. :-)

The Narrows

Creating images during the blue hour has become one of my favorite things to do photographically. There is a little magic in the air that seems to make nearly everything look somewhat dramatic when you view the photos. Of course, it’s mainly about the lighting and the blue hour has a low intensity, softening effect on the atmosphere in general. The resulting hues of blue and purple can be quite stunning. Today's image was taken shortly after this Bridge in Blue shot from a previous post.

Built upon the foundation of a former oyster shucking house is The Narrows, an outstanding seafood restaurant known for it's outstanding crab cakes and cream of crab soup. Pictured above is the actual rear of the building, which I found more interesting than the traditional restaurant front. Takes a photographer to come to that conclusion. :-)

Until next time...

A Downtown Bistro

Every city and town has them, those wonderful places with the modest setting, great atmosphere and outstanding cuisine. The Bistro. I love dining in them, they are my quickie trips to Paris (since I've never been there).   :-) Today's image is an early morning street scene taken while walking the downtown area. This place reminds me of New Orleans with it's architectural styling and the signature upper-level wrought iron railings.

This shot was taken around 8:00 in the morning with the sunlight turning harsh. I remember wishing that this place had been on the shady side of the street but sometimes you have to make the best of what lies before you. This was one of the last shots of the morning.

Before leaving I took a peek through the doors and the place looks quite inviting on the inside. Since I have never dined at this establishment a return trip during the evening hours is a must.

Thanks so much for visiting!

The Jazz Corner

Happy Friday! Today we share a few iPhone images from a wonderful jazz and super club we visited on Hilton Head Island recently. It's a quaint place called The Jazz Corner, featuring upscale culinary treats and outstanding entertainment. The name fits perfectly as the club sits back in a corner of a modern commercial development.

Upon entry, you are welcomed by a host or hostess and your immediate impression will be how professional the staff is. After taking a few steps inside the place, you just know this is a high quality establishment and you will anticipate nothing but the best of everything. You will also not be disappointed.

We visited on a Wednesday evening (do make a reservation, the place fills quickly) and was seated at a front row table with the stage just a few feet away.

The shots in this post were all taken while seated at our table. One may wonder if sitting this close to the stage would be too close. Will the music be too loud and annoying?

Not a chance, this place has excellent acoustics and sound quality.

After ordering wine and dinner, which was a five-star affair, we were entertained by The Earl Williams Quartet. What a great show and experience. Earl Williams is a very funny and talented gentleman who interacted very nicely with the sold-out crowd. It was truly a night to remember.

Mr. Williams plays several instruments and provides comedic relief, often reminding you of Fred Sanford (Red Foxx). Yes, he is truly an all-around entertainer and great song and dance man.

Clarence Williams, son of Earl, performs a solo on his bass guitar.

In the background is Jimmy Charles on drums, quite a talent and the man that keeps everything in time and on beat. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a better shot of Jimmy without rudely blocking someone's view.

Lavon Stevens

Lavon Stevens, an excellent pianist, was quite impressive with his ability to sing as well as play piano.

Lastly, we have Earl Williams, looking somewhat Hip-Hop, singing the blues. What an entertainer, he sings, dances, plays harmonica, saxophone, clarinet and provides comedy.

Bravo sir!

Overall, I rate The Jazz Corner as a 5-star experience and the owner and President, Bob, should be most proud of this wonderful establishment. If you are ever in Hilton Head, make this a place to visit for a memorable evening. Here is a list of the talent you can see there.

Thanks for visiting, and I wish you all a great weekend. :-)
