Today we take a peek at canoes at Lake Redman, the 290 acre watershed in southern Pennsylvania's York County. The lake can be accessed via the picturesque William H Kain County Park. I recently found myself there hoping to create a little sundown magic and took this image while waiting around on one of the hiking trails.

People can be seen canoeing here in great numbers during the summer months and fishermen are here year-round. They even ice fish during the Winter.

Water Intake Tower

Water Intake Tower - Lake Redman
Water Intake Tower - Lake Redman

At many reservoirs, lakes and other bodies of water you see these water intake towers which have a variety of uses (water level control, diversion to treatment plants, etc.). These structures always catch my attention because of the many sizes and styles of the service bridges that lead to the towers and the towers themselves. Some of these can be quite elaborate, particularly older models with castle-like enclosures on top. The water intake tower below is of the plain variety commonly seen in many areas today. Nonetheless, I find them interesting.

Taken in the Fall of 2011 at Lake Redman, this structure lies between the lake and the York Reservoir. I'm no hydro-engineer but I'd venture a guess that water levels in the nearby reservoir are controlled by this intake tower.

Thanks for visiting!
