Moon Rising

Welcome to another week in the world of photography.  I hope you enjoyed a great weekend and had an opportunity to create some fond memories. In today's post I have a simple night capture of the moon rising on Friday December 9th, 2011. I took this in anticipation of the total lunar eclipse that occurred Saturday December 10th, with plans to show both images in this post. As fate would have it the best time for viewing this here on the East coast of the U S was around 7:25 am, a time that greeted me with a heavily clouded sky.

Worst yet, my Wife called me from her early shopping trip to be sure I was capturing this beautiful orange Moon. She could see it very nicely a mere 10 miles away. :-)

So much for that one, will have to wait until April 15th, 2014 for the next one.  That leaves me with the initial shot as shown below.

Until next post... have a great day! :-)

Moon Rising at Perigee

On March 19th 2011, the moon was to pass the earth in it's nearest point (perigee) and I was fortunate enought to catch this shot very early in the event. Admittedly, it looked no larger than any other I had seen during my lifetime, and surely not in this image. :-) I had to settle for this shot since I would not be in a position to capture a better one later that night. This was billed as a "super moon" that was to be some 20% larger than normal but I honestly could not tell, particularly at this early stage. Perhaps it will seem larger on the next occurrence, a few thousand years from now.
