Cogs and Gears

Welcome to the weekend! It's been a bit of a whirlwind week but alas, a short time to relax is upon us. We'll close out the week with the logo of the Museum of Industry in Baltimore. A couple of previous post can be seen here and here. The logo is a wooden sculpture located in the museum's lobby. I found it to be pretty eye-catching when I entered the building and made sure to photo it before I left the premises.

Above the sculpture there is a bank of multi-directional lights, the effect of which create some interesting shadows in and around this work of art. I thought these shadows would lend themselves to some added structure in a B&W conversion, as seen below.

I hope you enjoyed these.

Wishing each of you a safe and fantastic weekend!

Giddy Up!

Before getting into today's post I wanted to again thank everyone for your feedback, comments,  plus 1s (on Google Plus) and RTs. It really means a lot to me and I so enjoy this photographic community and all of the talented individuals I interact with. You're all awesome! While out early one morning, as I am quite often, I stopped by a lake in hopes of catching a fisherman or two in a boat near the shoreline. I've been after a certain shot for some time and it has eluded me thus far. This particular lake has a nice trail that circles the perimeter and there are often mountain bikers, walkers and sometimes even people on horseback.

Having resigned myself to the fact that my intended target was again not available, I headed back to my vehicle wondering what I could do about the moody sky that begged to serve as a backdrop for something. After reaching the bottom of a steep hill I took one last glance and there it was. Like magic, a couple appeared on horseback from out of nowhere. I hit the prone position like a sniper and waited for the two to cross my field of view. I fired off several sets of handheld brackets and settled on the one below to process. Most of the steep hillside has been cropped out of the frame.

Enjoy!

Down on the Farm

I passed one of my old shooting spots recently, a patch of high ground overlooking an expressway on one side and farmland on the other. But after driving a mile or 2 I decided to turn back for some reason. I knew this spot had pretty much played out with me, hell, I've shot from every angle conceivable but continued back anyway. When I got to my usual vantage point I was immediately reminded of why I should return. There is a farm down below that I wanted to photo back in the early Summer but everything was too green and boring at the time. Now that it's Fall, the green grass and trees have turned and some contrast now exists. My mental note of returning during this season was quite clear now.

Enjoy!

I shot this as the Sun was setting but the problem is that the farm is in the east and the western view is pretty lousy from where I was standing, except for a really nice sky. Well, can't have everything so a plain, no-drama sky it is. ;-)

Below, an alternative selection.

The Quiet Before the Storm

Welcome back from the weekend. I hope you had an opportunity to relax and have some fun, maybe even squeeze in a photo shoot. ;-) Against the backdrop of a moody sky, the harbor area is eerily quiet in this scene just days before Irene would blow through the area. Seems that most people had already packed it in and gone home to secure their residences. I guess the tug boat and the smaller vessels were to ride out the storm just where they are.

Have a great day everyone!
