Rocky Trail

Welcome back and thanks for your comments and sharing on the previous posts. ;-) Recently I visited the Samuel S. Lewis State Park in York County Pennsylvania to check out the place. It's located on 885 foot Mt. Pisgah so I expected to find some nice hiking trails and rock formations. Below are a couple of shots of the many rock formations I came upon while there.

I was a little amazed at how so many huge rocks found themselves stacked in piles, as if placed by hand. But nature always amazes me with it's strength and beauty.

While hiking the trail I was reminded, not only of it's sheer beauty, but also of how much I am not in the physical shape I once was. :-)

This gave me incentive to get out and do this type of thing more regularly.

I don't want to bore you with these so we'll save some of the others for future posts.

Thanks so much for visiting.

Rock on!

Gateway to the Courtyard

As Summer 2011 was closing out and the transition to Fall was underway, I visited the Baltimore Museum of Art on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus. It's where I took this corner shot from inside one of the exhibits. The weather was gloomy and it had rained most of the day, which is why I decided to find something indoors. But before entering I dodged the raindrops enough to grab some shots of the courtyard near the Charles Street side of the campus. First up is the gateway to the courtyard. When I saw the gates I knew I wanted to throw on the fisheye lens for a little fun.

Next we step into the courtyard for a wider view, looking northeast.

After shooting a few more shots the rain began to intensify so it was time to call it off and head indoors.

Thanks so much for visiting and have a great day! :-)

Skyscrapers of New York

When you think of skyscrapers of New York, one usually thinks of images like this one from the 86th floor of the Empire State Building. But there are so many tall buildings in Manhattan that you could grab a nice photograph from practically any corner. Today's featured photo was taken somewhere in the city, likely in the Midtown Manhattan area since that's where I spent the majority of my time.

I can hardly wait to return to this magical, photographer's paradise. Although I stayed for a week on my last visit, I failed to get to all of the places I wanted to cover.

As provided in this previous Skyscraping post, a B&W version is offered below.

Lady Maryland

Welcome back, friends. I hope you enjoyed the weekend. Today's image shows the stern of the schooner Lady Maryland, now spending the Winter in Dry-dock for some needed repairs. I snapped this shot in Summer (2011) on a hot and humid day.  The ship was built in 1985 - 1986 with it's mission of serving as a floating classroom. This is the flagship of the Living Classrooms Foundation and has taken thousands of children on educational excursions, teaching them about life on the Chesapeake Bay, it's history and ecosystems.

What an awesome way for students to learn!

We'll have more images of this wonderful schooner in future post.
