Riverside Stroll

Down by the riverside (sounds like a song) during the early morning hours when the fog is lifting and there remains a distinct chill in the air, a family can be seen walking along the banks of the Susquehanna River. This is the town of Havre de Grace (pronounced "Haaver dee Grayce") Maryland, where the Susquehanna empties into the top of the Chesapeake Bay. The town was founded in 1782 and has a rich history. More on the town in future posts. I noticed this group of people out strolling and thought it would make a nice image to remember my last visit there.

What looks like a large boat cleat in the left foreground is actually a large piece of driftwood. In the background is a high speed railroad bridge where I watched Amtrak's Acela blow through town at speeds in the 90-100 MPH range. Anyway, the walkers knew I was taking their photo but didn't seem to mind. And nor did I. :-)

Reflective Moments

Welcome everyone! I hope you've enjoyed a great weekend. Here in the U S the Thanksgiving Holiday is upon us, a time to spend with family and friends and to create and share memories. But most importantly, a time to be thankful.

Today's images were taken at a riverside canal. As I was composing the shot below I heard some rustling above in a nearby tree. A missed opportunity had just flown off, as a very large and beautiful crane took flight. Too bad I hadn't scanned the trees more carefully as I walked the wooded area. In any case, it was back to my initial focus. :-)

As you can see, few if any leaves remain on the trees in this area now.

In addition to the color version I offer this Hazelnut treated version below.

Next we have the same vantage point, zoomed in to 70mm and focused on the tree stump.
