Snowy Pond

During a recent snowfall I ventured out just as it was tapering off to a few flurries. Everything was so beautiful and I decided to head for a nearby wooded area. The skies were gray and there was some ground-level fog about but visibility was fairly decent, which lead me to the shot below. I had hoped for a few Canadian geese, often hanging out here, but was happy for the serenity of what laid before me. The Weeping Willow with it's golden tones was a bonus. :-)

Enjoy!

After the Snow

The weather here in the Mid-Atlantic Region continues to mimic a roller coaster with temperatures at night dropping to below 20 degrees F, then shooting up to near 60 degrees during the day. Well yesterday it was a typical Winter day, cold and a dusting of snow. The image below is not from yesterday but from a sunrise in late October when we had a rare Halloween snow event. I took this shot a day or so afterward when much of the then 6 to 8 inches had melted away. There was still enough around to provide a little scenery and have some fisheye fun.

As the Sun worked it's way over the horizon and through the overcast sky, fog danced between the buildings in the distance. Made for quite a sight that morning.

First Snow of 2012

Welcome to another week in the wonderful world of photography. I hope you had a great weekend. This past Friday night the Mid-Atlantic region finally received it's first snow of 2012. It was a mere 5 inches in my area, just enough to provide a nice change of scenery for a few days and cause folks to fire up those snow-blowers. Temperatures have been in the teens and twenties all weekend, letting us know that Winter, like always, has arrived.

Below are a few nature shots I grabbed when the snow stopped falling and moved northward.

A small stream continues to run through the countryside above, while below, a wider body of water flows toward the Patapsco River.

Closing out this post we have a look at a small shed located on the edge of a nearby property. There is a small stream that flows beneath the structure, making it appear to be functioning. However, the snow on the wheel tells us otherwise. It's strategic placement makes this an eye-catcher though. ;-)
