Trees are pretty common subjects for outdoor photography either as the star or in a supporting role. They have a certain majestic feel to them that has me constantly on the lookout for those that may fit well in a scene.
Now that the peak colors of Fall have past and most of the leaves have made their way to the ground, many wooded areas have exposed themselves to views that are often given little attention. There is generally little interest in near-naked trees and their trunks. But as seen below, a little creativity can change a plain old scene into something a bit more interesting.

The image above was taken with the always fun to use 10.5mm fisheye. With a 180 degree viewing angle, results can be surprising at times.
I processed this in Lightroom 4.2, applying a "Soft View" preset I created for another image.
